Michał Bachowski, curator of the Body at a Crossroads exhibition, will talk about the polarization in the understanding of the human body. Will it be possible to find a compromise in these extreme views?
The body is the basic tool used by people in interactions with the environment. But it has its own imperfections and limitations, which increasingly polarize contemporary humans. Some want to overcome them using the developments of plastic surgery, prosthetics, bioengineering, artificial intelligence and other computer-based technologies. Others, however, consider such activities unethical and dangerous, and celebrate the naturalness of the human body, avoiding any artificial improvements. During the lecture we will consider whether there are any limits to improving ourselves, showing how different designers take up this topic.
